  • Hi all....

Joshua, you can hold down the Control (command) key on your keyboard while scrubbing the playhead to listen the sound.

Hi Elrond, I want to start off by saying thank you this tut it is very helpful, and i was wondering if there was any way i could get a compress video file so i can display this video in my school. Unfortunatly my school blocks nearly all video hosted websites and there really is no way for all of us to find out how to do new stuff online. this tut could realy help my video production class in developing skills on after effects. My e-mail is HmBaquero1090@gmail.com contact me as soon as you can
    -thank you

Great tutorial! thanks but I cannot start to move each object because the transform box seems to not only cover each object, but centers in the entire box. So I want the small box that shows up when each object is selected to start in the middle of that object, instead the middle is the entire composition.
  • eddie pop 1 year ago
When you import the .ai file, make sure you choose the "Composition - Cropped Layers" option from the drop-down menu.

I love this effect. I want to do it for a promotional video for a client I'm working with. Looks like it's gonna take me a lot of time being a starter at After Effects, but the end result will be fantastic! Thanks for the tutorial!

Is it necessary to resize the illustrator file in After Effects to fit the comp ??

i imported the music file into AE in AIF format and then i try to play it and it plays but theres no music, so i was wondering if u know how to fix it or what is wrong? thanks!

As much as I loved this tutorial. You didnt show the way you saved your illustrator file. Did you save it as a .ai file? What boxes were checked. etc.? The reason I bring this up, Is when I import to AE it is all in one layer. PLEASE HELP.....
    Thanks for this tutorial.
  • Daniel Libby 3 months ago
After effects understands Ai files and when you import the Ai file I am pretty sure it will come in as a composition meaning it understands all the layers. Hope that is helpful.

I'm using AE 7. Maybe thats my problem. I searched the net but cant get no answers. I have been doing all the text in after effects and cutting out the illustrator step.

thanx a lot!!! I will try to do it with this steps!!

  • A MUCH easier way of generating the words is to go to wordle.net and enter your own words, a website URL, or a blog and it will generate everything for you in a neat Java app. You can print it into a PDF (if you have Acrobat Pro) and import that into After Effects. All words, colors and basic shape is already done for you in a matter of seconds!

    Hope this helps!

  • this would work unless you want it in a custom shape.

This was a great tutorial. I had done a little work in After Effects before, but I always have to refresh myself on what functions do what, and just like many other programs, there are many different ways to get similar results. I liked the method here. This was my first kinetic typography piece. Check it out and please comment. I like feedback, good or bad!

Sorry but I didn't like this tutorial... There's a lot of time that is cut off, you never show the output (with audio), and you don't show keyboard shortcuts to simplify the work.

  • LoanGoose 1 year ago
@Veehmot I too would have liked to see the final product, but it was still a good quality informative video. I give it 5 out of 6 chicken nuggets, but with sauce.

When i import the Illustrator file into after effects it only shows up as one solid page of text rather than each individual word as a layer. ANY HELP?? is it possibly my format i saved the AI file as? or did i not properly layer the words? PLEASE HELP!! THANK YOU

There has to be an easier way to sync the audio than just manually dragging and timing it via the timeline... I was thinking of trapcode sound keys would help.
  •
  • Vhozard 1 year ago
Yes, there is a "Retain Layers" option there.

You need to make sure you're dragging in the Composition created in the top right panel, not the project folder that has been imported. i was making the same mistake :)

hi when i import my files into after effects (i do the whole retain layers thing but when i then drag the layers into the composition it put evry layer centered ontop of each other iv tryed selecting the folder or the files nothing works help
  •
  • anita l 8 months ago
You have to make sure the layers are by itself. Like they're not sub-layers. (Took me a while to figure this out too.)
