Mike, that was awesome! How did you/ or did you mount the phone for the fly-bys?

Love the phone, I see you're getting good use of it too!

We're going to release a full behind the scenes video in a few days ... we had to get really creative. :)

I'm glad you delete that post by that TOOL! It had me heated for like 3 hrs. NOT the appropriate forum for posting your opinions on the hardware.

Great job, love the "behind the scenes" =)

Very cool... Though not sure how you recorded the clear dialogue and sound mixed...
  • Michael Koerbel plus 2 years ago
ADR recorded on the iPhone in a closed car, then clips were extracted and added and mixed with the score track prior to syncing in iTunes and putting back onto the iPhone to be used in iMovie ... it took us a bit to figure it out, but it worked.
  • Brett B 2 years ago
So it wasn't done entirely on the iPhone then?
  • dunkwun 2 years ago
haha.. everything he just described was done on the iphone... so it probably means everything was entirely done on the iphone...
  • Danny Lyon 2 years ago
Not really, it's says they had to taken off the iphone and brought back on to be used in iMovie. So it wasn't all done on the iPhone.

Quite a challenge! THat seems to be the tough part about the imovie app.. the sound portion. Well done!!! Amazing.
  • Michael Koerbel plus 2 years ago
yeah, audio is the tough part ... we couldn't figure out how to trim the audio clip at all ... we spent awhile doing it, then realized ... "well we ARE doing this on a phone." haha.

Looks like a Manfrotto (Bogen) Magic Arm and Super Clamp system in the movie. With a little high visibility paint added on the Super Clamp.

And you gotta be careful with the Super Clamp, it'll crush the iPhone like a peanut shell if over tightened.

Nice choice of venue for your's ... I shot mine in 115 degree Arizona heat ... :(
  •
  • Really impressive, sold me on the 4 (apart from the fact that my 3GS is less than a year out of the box). The audio quality is still low in terms of noise, but you did an incredible job with the whole thing considering, and a serious testament to the versitility of the iphone in the hands of someone skilled. Might suggest using Fire for audio recording, though unsure how that would work with the iMovie app (which I'm assuming you used).

    Look forward to seeing more!

nice work, it is impressive that a phone can do this, but just because it can do it does not mean you should. I am guessing you could have shot the same film with almost any other camera and came out with just as good of a result. Must have been a pain for post though!
  • Chris Tompkins 2 years ago
Don't be retarded. There are plenty of great applications for this like journalism and interviewing. Just because someone has better equipment doesn't mean their work is better. This is a proof of concept that shows a phone can give you the video quality of a 5 year old prosomeer dv cam.
  • Eric Buist plus 2 years ago
You are right, I am a retard. Thank-you.

This camera is very cool. I am impressed by the film. Now I want you to tell me that the film would look worse on a higher end camera... go.

That was awesome. It is that type of work that is possible that makes me want to pick one up tomorrow. But I keep hearing about back glass shattering, etc and get scared like a little girl. Haha.

Question to anyone reading this. Does your HD video play back a bit glitchy in here or is it just me?

    Great job.

I'm a Vimeo newbie & simply noted that it played as Flash on my laptop (after I disengaged ClickToFlash in Safari). Also, makes me want to get into the world of model railroading; see

I am most interested in the behind the scenes on how did you figure out a way to stabilize the phone. Did you use a mechanical stabilizer or is iMovie so sofisticated now that it was able to stabilize it by software alone? #congratz

I have the same interrogation as Fabio. How was it satbilize?

But, it's a Great Movie. Nice Shots too!

Hi Michael and your team, I really thank you for this awesome work which is very inspiring. I can't wait for the behind the scenes! Could you tell us how you mixed the sound with the score and after putting it back into the iPhone synchronized it with images in iMovie ?
Guess I won't be able now to resist to get me an iPhone 4 ! Thanks again for the perfect technic and poésie : Art !

This video is nothing short of incredible! Maybe I still a little choked up from Toy Story 3 but I found this incredibly moving. The shots in here are amazing and the quality of the video from the iPhone camera is truly breathtaking.

You guys deserve every bit of applause you're likely to get and if Apple doesn't put this into a commercial or have you come up on stage at the next keynote they're crazy!
  •
  • Bryan Schiele 2 years ago
How did you upload this? From the iPhone as well?
  • Brad Roekle 2 years ago
You can't upload directly from the iPhone in HD. You have to export it to the computer and upload it from a web-browser.
  •
  • Brad Roekle 2 years ago
Are you having trouble exporting videos longer than 3min? Seems as though lots of people are. discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2479632&start=0&tstart=0
  • Keith Rivers pro 2 years ago
i never had an issue with the export. i did it through iphoto
