Graduation Day - 2008 | HD
Shot entirely at UCLA's school of sociology graduation.
This was mainly to get more practice with the Canon XH-A1, so there are lots of random shots in this.
Hopefully this will bring back some happy memories of that day for some of you. Let me know if you happen to see yourself in this.
Sorry if the music is a bit cliche.

Nick Keating 3 months agogreat work mate, many nice shots, nice song choice too, love that song! -
andrew p 3 months agothanks! though i think a 35mm adapter would have helped immensely. -
David H. Cho 2 months agoHaha, that's the first time I've seen a guy do that (video camera next to a still camera) Yeah, a 35mm adapter with a 135mm lens would have helped tremendously. And also, some color correction couldn't hurt. The XH-A1 stock footage tends to look murky and colorless. -
David H. Cho 2 months agoAnd also a lot of these shots are overexposed to an undesireable level. -
andrew p 2 months agoThanks David, that's really helpful information. I put the ND filter on 1/32 and set the gain to -3. With the harsh sunlight it never seemed enough unless I played around with the iris. Is there any way around this besides touching the iris or adding an addition ND lens filter? -
David H. Cho 2 months agoPlaying with the iris is the only way to go. I assume you wanted to keep it at a certain exposure to maximize shallow depth of field? If you're shooting on a stock lens (without a 35mm adapter), then you must accept the fact that you cannot get a filmlike depth of field. You can, however, find a way to better control the exposure while keeping the iris wide open. You need to buy a bunch of 72mm nd filters at different shade types. Then you can keep the iris at 1.4, or whatever is wide open, and prevent overexposure. It does get annoying screwing filters on and off though... -
andrew p 2 months agoYeah, I really wanted to go as shallow as I could so I avoided adjusting the iris as much as possible. I guess I'll have to go filter shopping until I can afford a 35mm adapter. Thanks for the info, that was really helpful! -
David H. Cho 2 months agoNo problem, good luck with it. Remember, when you go 35, the wallet gets smaller and smaller (lenses, rig, monitor, etc.) -
DARK LIGHT PRODUCTION & FILMS 30 days agoWhat if you used a rock version or the old grad song??
