- Filmed on Magazine St in New Orleans. A beautiful hot summer day. We didn't really know what we would find- we met this interesting painter and her muse. It's rare to find artists on Magazine St. It was hot, and they were looking for shade.

- I am trying this new thing - whatever film I start shooting, I have to finish editing and upload by the end of the day.

- Because I had no plan, no concept, I was lazy about the shots- they are shaky and out of focus often, and I didn't get a lot of good footage to shoot with.

- I am particularly proud of the title in perspective. :)

Great typeface. Despite the "flaws" you mention in the description, not a bad impromptu piece.

i liked it! had a nice cool feel to it. very natural. the part where they revealed the letters by walking felt very cool. well, time to go do some more experimenting with my homebaked static35. i'll be lucky to get my stuff edited by the end of the day:P

i don't mind that the shots are shaky, it takes a part of the movie, it belongs there! Nice movie, love the details, love the focus and out-of-the-focus.
    Great job!

    simply fantastic...

  • Good work. Your videos have inspired me to shift my focus back away from the computer and more into the field.

  • Really like your work!!!.
I have an hv20 camera, but is impossible to get a DoF here in Chile, Southamerica!!!.
    Any ideas?
  • saturno 1 year ago
cuanto te costò la hv20? dimelo en dolares
  • 1300 dolares. la compre en amazon.
  • kruzer 1 year ago
If you have a HV20 then you already have a DOF.
Back off from your subject and use full zoom-in.
Then put it in MANUAL mode and you have a DOF good as some of these add-on things.
If you need examples I can give you some of my movie links where I did that.
  • Hey kruzer!.
I like to see that videos. I feel that I need to practice, and is a good idea to see you work. Can you give to me your links, please?.
  • kruzer 1 year ago
OK, if anyone is interested to see a DOF with a stock Hv20 here's the link:
    vimeo.com/931137
I have also some flower close-ups using a DOF kinda images.
Here's how you can do the same as I did:

You must be 5-20 meters away from your subject.
Then you zoom in, all the way to max zoom WITHOUT using your digital zoom.
    That's it.
If you want to make it even more interesting put the camera focus in MANUAL mode.
It will take a lot of practice.

One little warning when you use DOF
Use it for a 'reason' to make your movie better.
Not because you can do DOF.
I see lots of DOF and 35mm adapter users making silly movies along the line of how some people use the zoom lens: zoom in and out for no reason at all.

Look for a REASON why you must use the DOF scene as in my movies.
Making good movies is not easy.... am still learning :)

Your work is so amazing! You're shooting with a Canon HV20 right? Do you think the HG21/HF11 can have as crisp a focus as the HV20? I really wanna get into videography.

I'm loving your directive touch in your work. You're tapping into something quite human and individual...and quite inspiring on some levels.

It's enough to hook me into seeing the rest of your work here.
    keep it up.
    ;)

Nice. You're being too critical on yourself. I really like the use of type in this one. I discovered you through the "50 People, 1 Question" vid (which is SUPERB!), and now I'm into seeing all of your work. It's so inspiring. Please keep posting the vids that you think aren't very good -- it's so helpful to see a good videographer in process. Thanks.

    "....whatever film I start shooting...."
You actually shot this on 'film'?
If not, then you should call this 'recording or taping' because that's what you do.

Nobody shoots film or 'filming' anymore :)
  • Benjamin Reece 1 year ago
True, it just sounds cool :) They call themselves....Filmmakers....even when they use digital. Explain that :)
  • kruzer 1 year ago
    OK.
You know, if we really use film we still can't call ourselves as 'film-makers' because we don't MAKE films.
KODAK, FUJI, AGFA makes film :)
We USE film and we make MOVIES!

  • Great stuff man, I love the title sequence.

Where did you get the upside down rig? I've been considering getting one for my HF-100.

Jordan, if your story is true, it's really touching.
And, if it's not, well, it's even a great story too ;-)

    Nice video, by the way.

Try to look out on Vimeo or somewhere else on the web, how I can find a DOF adaptator for my Sony SR-11, without success for now...

    Love your video man.

What shutter speed did you shoot at? I tried filming in 1/48 since people say it's the most "filmic" shutter speed, but I keep losing sharpness during movement.
  • Benjamin Reece 1 year ago
Oh, its not shot in 1/48, its actually set to auto shutter and iris. I should, but I don't worry about any of that :). Sometimes I lock exposure, but thats it.
