I had shown the ” Scotland video” here already.
I was not entirely satisfied with the old version. So here is a revised one. Hope you like it. I'm sorry for the already given comments and "likes".

    love it.
Is this time lapse? Im new to this. How do you pan or glide your shots if they are static images?

    thanks
  • Ben plus 1 year ago
    Hello John!

Yes, it is mainly time-lapse. I have added the movement later in After Effects. I try to explain it: My video has a resolution of 1280 X 720px. I scale my photos now, for example to 1480 X 720px.I can move this "larger" photo sequence from left to right in After Effects.

    how you make hdr timelapses?
its a lot of work to make hdr timelapses right?
    p.s. good video ;)
  •
  • john johnston plus 1 year ago
oh right, so its basically like doing the "ken burns " effect in post.

Do you have any tips on time lapse. Ive never actually tried it and mostly do video and speed it up but im thinking the time lapse is more practical and i actually prefer the look to it, rather than video.
Do you use the original canon shutter timer cord?

    Thanks Ben
  • Ben plus 1 year ago
I think it is better to make a time lapse with a still camera. The photo quality is much better than video.
It is important to make all the camera settings manually. Otherwise, the images flicker..., and of course you need a tripod.

    I´ve used a JJC Timer

Cheers Ben. I think i'll order that one. heading off to Japan at the end of the month so i need to get some practice :-)

Can you teach me why the interval recording is possible to do only on some camcorder tape-less (Xdcam-P2)? I can't do it on an HDV or AVCHD camcorder. Are there any accessories to have timelapse on that camcorders too??

    Thanks.
  • Ben plus 1 year ago
Sorry, I don´t know that. I do not have a camcorder but a DSLR.
  • Filenstyle plus 1 year ago
Why choose an dslr instead of a last generation camcorder? Its best price?
  • Ben plus 1 year ago
Primarily I bought the camera to make photos with it. The video mode is just an additional feature.

Them apart a good DSLR (Canon 5d II, Canon 7D) has a better video quality than a camcorder.
I made the video with the Nikon D90. The video quality is not as good as a Canon.
  • Filenstyle plus 1 year ago
    Thanks.

Why not all camcorders have function of interval rec, to do timelapse? can you teach me?
  • Ben plus 1 year ago
I think it's like all technical equipment. One unit has a particular feature the others has not...

i have a question for you if you dont mind...

if youre simply just taking a large sequence, how do you avoid the shutter lag after taking like 20 shots of whatever it is. do you know what i mean? like the buffer filling up and the shutter slowing down the frame rate after a while.
  • Ben plus 1 year ago
I do not know if I have understood the question correctly.
You mean the serial shot function?
You must set the photo quality to "Norm" and the size to "Small". In addition You need a fast memory card (6 Class Card)

But I think you cannot prevent it entirely.
  • Horst Fellenberg 1 year ago
I dont think he meant the serial shot function.

In time lapse you don't take 20 shots at once.
You set the timer for example: Shoot 1 Picture every Minute. So the camera has enough time to save the picture and take the next in the next minute.

Btw, great video, which camera did you choose?
  • Ben plus 1 year ago
Thanks Horst for the support. In my case I took one pic every 5-6 sec.It depends on how fast the clouds went by.

I´ve done it with the D90.
  •
  • john johnston plus 1 year ago
is there a set amount of time one should set there camera too.
like, 2-3 secs for slow clouds.
5-6 secs for fast clouds etc etc?

what about when you want to time lapse folk walking?
and is there also an optimum shutter speed setting with time lapse?

    Thanks again
  • Ben plus 1 year ago
The faster the objects move, the smaller the interval between the photos. The more pictures the better.

Folk walking: every second one photo with a long shutter speed.

Have a look at this tutorial: content.photojojo.com/tutorials/ultimate-guide-to-time-lapse-photography/

  • Love the long and short shutter mix.

I rarely browse stuff in vimeo nowadays. but things like these make me want to spend more time just watching pure creativity. Good stuff ben!

0:59, were those crabs moving on the rocks?
  • Ben plus 1 year ago
Thank you for the kind words! I appreciate it very much. I´m a big fan of “Urban Tranquility - Abu Dhabi”

You're the first who has noticed it. No, there were no crabs but thousands of snails. I noticed till at home that they all have moved.

Hi Ben. im wondering if you'd be kind enough to take a little look at this small time lapse clip, giving that it was your videos that inspired me to try it out :-)

Camera was set on manual with a shutter speed of 1/1000th. There seems to be a slight change in exposure, or is that simply the sun passing over the clouds? Does it look smooth enough or is there something im doing wrong? Any tips would be appreciated
    Thanks

Super dynamic and so interesting to see another take on Scotland - I was there a few years ago and think I recognize some of the locations, but looks like you had better weather! Is some of this on Isle of Skye?
  • Ben plus 1 year ago
It is mainly Glencoe and the surrounding area. We were also on Skye but the weather was not so good. Therefore there are no pictures of the isle in the clip.

This is some outstanding colour treatment!

I love the movement of the seeweed in the foreground at the loch.

Are you batch editing the stills in photoshop?
  • Ben plus 1 year ago
    Hi Matt!

    Thanks for commenting.
Yes, I have edited the stills in Photoshop via batch.
  • Matt Stockman 1 year ago
    Hi Ben,

I really like the landscape colours, each still in this video could stand alone as a quality landscape photo.

I wonder if there is any chance you could share your photoshop workflow with me?
I know its a big ask!

    hi ben great video!!

at 0:55 sec what sort of shutter speed and interval were you using, im going down to the west coast of ireland next week and i'll be timelapsing and that type of shot is one that ive been wanting to do for a while
  • Ben plus 1 year ago
I did it with a ND filter (B+W 1000x). Exposure time: 9 seconds per photo.

im new in vimeo but i was wondering :
is there a way to add your brilliant system on a tripod like the one we see on the Kessler CineSlider (there's a vid on the website at : tomguilmette.com/wp/onlinefilm-gallery/equipment-reviews/kessler-cineslider-portable-dolly-system)

i think i'm gonna take the chance and buy the stuff you just mentionned before (with all the links) i'm not very clever but seeing the result it's worthit

'wish more guys like you could imagine things like that
    it's impressive ..
(i own the new d7000 by the way)
  • Ben plus 1 year ago
Thank you for your nice comment. Of course you can attach it to a tripod. There are three 1/4 inch threaded into the rail. Two on the edge and one in the middle.
  •
  • charles kane 1 year ago
    ok thanks for the reply
so let's buy all the stuff i'll report all the issues of course
'think it's gonna take up to 3 months to achieve that lol

Sorry to bother you again Ben, but may we know the artist and title of the music for this vid as well please?

By the way, I am putting together a DVD of some of the best of Vimeo, just to watch on my TV at home with friends. Could you make this available to download if it is not a problem please?

    Thank you very much

    Title: Nascimento

The video is highly compressed from Vimeo. I think it is not fun to see it on TV:-(

Thanks Ben. I know ways to get around the compression. Hope it would work.

Very beautiful video. I am simply admired by your ability. I want to learn to do the same works, but only I don't know as on my chamber Canon EOS 5D Mark II to expose correct options. Prompt please. Or that is necessary in addition that to buy still??? For example a remote control, or how? How to make that the chamber removed through a certain time interval??? Thanks)
