Establishing Shots

In filmmaking, an "establishing shot" is a long shot that allows the audience to see where the scene is taking place and sets the stage for what happens next. Filmmaker Christopher McNamara has used this bit of cinematic grammar in an unusual way in this short drama. Each shot in Establishing Shots is an "establishing shot," and each is matched to narration in a different language that tells a small but powerful tale while the shot stays on the screen.
