This film was made for the Atlanta 48 Hour Film Project. You are given a genre, prop, character and line of dialogue that you must include in your film. You then have 48 hours to make it, including writing, filming and all post production.

REQUIRED ELEMENTS:
Character: Sidney or Cynthia Vintia, Meteorologist
Prop: a frozen drink
Line of Dialogue: "What do you mean, 'we’re out of it'?"

It was filmed on the canon HV20 and HV30 with the Cinevate Brevis35 adapter. There is ADR, colour grading, and a few tweaks done after the 48 hours.

Wow, I really enjoyed this short. You did a great job. I liked the lead actress, she was very convincing. You did a good job with the effects, especially considering the amount of time you had.
  • omar z 1 year ago
I do agree that the job as a whole was excellent, yet I do tend to disagree about the lead actress being convincing. I think she was the weakest bit of the whole film!

Who was the AE artist in the mix? Nice touches for a 48 hour turnaround.
  • Batteryfire 1 year ago
Thanks! It was a little crazy to attempt a bunch of VFX shots for a 48 hour project, but it definitely puts us in the running for the "best VFX" award now :)

What was the line of dialogue that you were given?

    PS Good Job.

Excellent short, very well produced. For me, it was a little too dark (cinematically) but the AE effects were quite superb. Even more evidence that film making is slipping from the hands of the big studios.

Are you on a Mac or PC?
  • Greg Wallis 1 year ago
PC (Vista), using Sony Vegas. I do graphics/design for a living, so my monitor's pretty well set up, though I know there's a slight gamma difference between Macs and PCs.

So how many feature scripts have you written?
  • Batteryfire 1 year ago
    None. :)

I have a few short film scripts, but it will be a while before I attempt a feature.
  • exte 1 year ago
Would you guys consider shooting a prologue to this? Or is just done and you're moving on?
  • Batteryfire 1 year ago
Possibly, there was a lot more ideas we had that didn't make it in. As for now I've got some other stuff I'm workin' on though.

great, just the voices are dubbed over instead of using the original sound, or at least it seemed so, everything else was great though
  • Batteryfire 1 year ago
Yep. Everything got replaced. The original sound isn't too bad actually, I just wanted to have a shot at ADR. (I haven't done it before)

Damn, that kept my attention thru the whole thing. I did a 48 hr film before and know how challenging it is soo great job on this.
  • Batteryfire 1 year ago
Good to hear! I had the benefit of doing a 48 hour film last year, so I was able to avoid most of the mistakes I made this time.

excellent job! you definetly have a talent in film making. how did you render the project like what did you film it in and what modes did you use
  • Batteryfire 1 year ago
Canon HV30 and HV20 in 24p mode, set to TV Shutter 1/48. All custom settings turned to -1. Captured to Cineform 720p with pulldown removal. Edited in Vegas, Rendered back to Cineform and imported to After Effects for the VFX work and final color grading.

Wow man, looks amazing, and the story was compelling all the way through. I entered a 48 hour challenge last year and shot in a similar way (35mm adapter of digital) but my story (and sound) wasn't up to scratch. Great to see someone who got it all right!

wow great work. after effects? did i miss the frozen drink?
  • Caleb Andrews 1 year ago
Our frozen drink was that red substance that Sidney dropped while she was asleep. It kind of melted after a couple of shots...lol.

Im pretty much speechless, there are two movies that really show the film qualities of the HV20 in an impressive way, and both are made by you.
How can you do a 1/48 shutter, i can only get 1/25 and 1/50?
  • Batteryfire 1 year ago
Thanks! Do you have a PAL camera? that may be why you only get 1/25 and 1/50
  • Stefan K 1 year ago
yep, but i didnt know there were shutter differences in the versions. so you only got 1/48 instead of 1/50?
How do you like the brevis 35mm adapter, it seems to me it is one of the best ones out there, but what do you think?
  •
  • Nathan Sage 1 year ago
Awesome for a 48 hour short. I loved the touch with the "Phantom from Outer Space" title coming across the screen while they're talking on the phone.

Awesome job! I was wondering if you'd make another post to vimeo (your other video is great too). Amazing that you could do something like this within 48 hours. I hope you win!

BTW, did you get any sleep those 2 days?
  • Batteryfire 1 year ago
No sleep. at all. :) Thanks!

this is surprisingly cool for a 48hr project.

    good job sir.
  • Batteryfire 1 year ago
Thanks man. I was just showing someone one of your videos to demonstrate good hv20/hv30 cinematography WITHOUT a 35mm adapter.
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
lmao. I was doing the same with your rainy day footage before I decided to go with the hv20 for this short.

Some acting was a little unnatural though... well, I guess that's pretty good for a 48h challenge!

48 hour film competitions are awesome, we did one in sarasota florida here and we got viewers choice for a buddy cop short. Good times, and no sleep.

    Did you win?

  • Ian-T 1 year ago
Like everyone said...good job....especially for doing it in 48 hours. The colors look nice and the special effects were done well. I thought the female actress did a great job. Heck...I can't do anything like this in 48 days much less 48 hours... Good luck with that shoot in England. Once again I think you have inspired a great deal of folks with your work...keep it up... I think you and Ayz Waraich are top notch in terms of how you manifest your vision with the tools at hand. Especially being that it's a consumer camera.
