For decades, sailors crossing the International Date Line for the first time have been called "pollywogs" and have had to go through some sort of initiation ritual. My father shot this footage of a pollywog ritual (you might call it "hazing") aboard the U.S.S. Coast Guard Cutter "Chautauqua" in 1957. We found the footage while digitizing old home movies.
