In the installation, we captured the micro-world of the Hong Kong Park and the Hong Kong Visuals Arts Centre. Let visitors experience how the magnified image under the microscope will be. Also, give visitors a different look towards this place.

We transformed the microscope into a musical instrument. The botanic samples we collected from the environment will act just like a CD. Each set of installation will create different sounds. We have 4 kinds of instruments: rhythmic, melodic, chord and abstract. 4 different modes give visitors a total new and interactive experience in playing music.

The installation is mainly built with openframeworks (OF) and Max/Msp. The mechanism is using microscope image to do an image processing in OF. We have 4 modes in image detection. Afterward, the calculated data is then transcribed into midi format. Max/Msp acts as a midi listener. For the setup of the performance, Max/Msp side hosted some more vsti plugins to generate different tones for the 3 pieces. While in the OF side, we have some advanced modes for changing the speed of image processing. It helps to control the different break points in performing.
