For an image video I tested some timelapse shots with my SLR camera and an additional timer called MQ-TC3. After exporting the jpgs to an uncompressed AVI-file with After effects, I animated the motion with Adobe Premiere CS3.

Funny, took me three playbacks to see what's happening. How are the wagons propelled once on the yard?

Gravity is put to use here. A train of freight cars is slowly pushed uphill by a locomotive. As the cars are not coupled together they start to roll down one by one as they pass over the top. You can see the locomotives stop as they reach the top of the hill. The hill is not very high, a few metres only, so you can't see it from the camera's viewpoint.

You're so right... and so poetic :o)

Aha thanks for the explanation. So they have to be careful how to set the switches or they may end up with wagon collisions

There was a shunting yard near my work place so I have seen it done many times. In the Dutch language there is even a verb for this hump-shunting: "heuvelen".

    I'm learning dutch here :-D

  • That's good dude. How many shots you did each time... I mean... like (5 snaps on a same position, and then you went to the next shot? Or how many?) See ya!

    Hi P,

don't know if I really understand your question. I put a grey glass (ND400) onto the lens, like sunglasses, so I could expose every frame for 3 seconds and with an additional Intervall-Timer ( enjoyyourcamera.com/Canon-Accessories/Phottix-TR-80-C1-Timer-LCD-Remote-Control-Remote-Cord-for-Canon-EOS-RS-60E3-Canon-400D-350D-300D-and-Pentax-SC-205::870.html ), which I can plug into my camera it's possible to expose a new photo every 4 seconds for example. After about 16 minutes the camera made 250 frames which is 10 seconds of timelapse (25f/second).
