On May 26, 2010 Gladys Guidino was invited to give the closing speech at the Mountain View High School's annual awards ceremony. MVHS is a both a distinguished California and national high school. During this event, graduating seniors receive various awards for their achievements at MVHS. Gladys was asked to speak because she was the first graduate of the Burwen Education Foundation's AVID scholarship. This grant enabled Gladys to pursue her dreams by attending and graduating from UCLA. In this speech Galdys tells the story of the challenges she faced and the people who helped her overcome the educational barriers growing up in a Latino immigrant family.
