The 70s are back with a bang.
Papi Chulo or Daddy Cool is your typical old skool television sitcom ladies man. What that really means he’s massively sexist, racist and homophobic. Always on the prowl for women, he seduces them with unashamed innuendos and cheesy double entendres, but is always stopped by the unwitting Portuguese waiter Eusebio, in a classic sitcom format.
Papi Chulo is a tongue in cheek slapstick sitcom based around playing on the old stereotypes (and production values) of the past and having a laugh with it.
Jokes aside, it does also look at how far television has come from the ‘good old days’ of being plain offensive. The line between what is funny and what is just plain old ignorant was regularly crossed, and times fortunately have changed… well to an extent. Looking at some of the programs out there now you would think that is far from the truth.
