I found this damselfly crawling around in my pond and I knew it would climb out to transform, just had that feeling.
So I followed him/her for one hour.
It was difficult to shoot sometimes because of the uncomfortable position.
I am now making a new arm/boom/jib like thing specially for macro filming.

Made with a Panasonic SD5 edited in Premiere cs3.
I am making a new edit now in Vegas Pro because Premiere gave me lots of problems.

that was sweet. right place, right time. what macro lens did you use?
  • Edwin bont 3 years ago
I have made my own lens by using the front lens of a broken 35mm lens. ("cheap" telezoom lens).
I literally sawed it off and glued a stepdown ring on it so i can screw it on my camera.

Your photography is superb, getting up to an hour of footage edited down to 2 min 40 sec must have been really tough but the shots that you have used are perfectly cut together, the soundtrack works beautifully also - truely an example of video art at its finest.

Wow, thanks, this is just my first video.
I love to learn new skills and video is a lot different than photography.
I still make a lot of mistakes like an almost full memorycard and just one almost empty battery.
So i missed the shot were the Damselfly "broke out of its skin".
He was hanging just a few inches from the water and i had to lay down my tripod en hang my camera over the water, not very steady.
    Thanks for your comment.

THAT WAS SOOO BEAUTIFUL.. amazing when the damselfly emerged from its pupal case, and the closeups of its head as it cleaned its face.. music synced perfectly too.. unbelievable.. keep it up!! don't fall in the water with your camera though, LOL

Fantastic macro! If I saw that thing in the water, I never would have realized it was a damselfly ready to emerge so soon.

That was a nice piece of work. Worth the patience and difficulties to get it right. Work of an alien I should say :)

Edwin ... 20 or so years ago, I glued two stepdown rings together so I could reverse a 35mm lens for macro work. CAUTION ... Don't use super glue (cyanoacrylate) A couple of hours later when I attached it to the camera, the stuff was still vaporizing, and it percipitated on my lens. I lost all the front lens coatings when I cleaned it off!!!
