Balance of power between three branches of government was a revolutionary idea when it was made a central tenet of the United States Constitution. Today, this precious balance is wobbling. The executive branch has been allowed to act unilaterally with intensifying authority over time. Recent inquiries into this use of power have been answered inconclusively by claims of executive privilege, leaving executive power unchecked and ever expanding.
