sisenor.cz The celebrations of the Mexican holiday "Cinco de Mayo" (May 5th) take place by Mexican communities through out the world despite it is more likely a regional celebration in Mexico, primarily celebrated in the state of Puebla, its adopted and observed in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. For the most part the celebrations combine traditional food, folklore music and dancing.
The holiday commemorates an initial victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza over French forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The "Batalla de Puebla" came to represent a symbol of Mexican unity and patriotism. With this victory, Mexico demonstrated to the world that Mexico and all of Latin America were willing to defend themselves of any foreign intervention. Especially those from imperialist states bent on world conquest.
