Really enjoyed this, i think the quotes from eternal sunshine of the spotless mind work really well with visuals.

Thanks, Jay. One of my favorite mood inducing films.

Nice work, Scott. I like this video.
    @Jay
Memoryhouse actually took lo-fi guitar arpeggio from "Phone Call" by Jon Brion, music from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind.

Thanks! I got the T2i in March and have been deep in pre-production on a romantic/thriller feature I shooting in August... and by the way, my mind boggles at the thought of both us behind the lens on that! Mad Crazy! If you like, I could email you a clip... not ready to share the movie en masse... send me a pvt message.

Thanks, Ofa. I was going for a hazy dream like vibe. I sometimes like creating moods more than actually constructing a seamless narrative. I am glad you enjoyed it.

Hi, your "BBQ-ed / Summerized" videos are really amazing !

Each track match perfectly with the theme of your videos. Do you have a Spotify/Last.fm Playlist or something like that ? I'm a big fan of your musical tastes.
  • Scott Foley plus 1 year ago
Hey Florian, thanks for noticing. Choosing the perfect track for the vibe of the video is one of my favorite things to do. I do not have a Spotify or Last fm account, yet I just may have to set up one soon. If I do, I shall let you know.

Nice video Scott! It's like a flow of mind which I actually have been pleased to travel with =)
Why did you choose this unstandard screen ratio 2:1 (and correctly 40:17)?
  • Scott Foley plus 1 year ago
I chose it because I simply like the feel of it. To me the slimmer aspect ratio feels a little more modern and hip.

  • very nice video really. i like your shoting style... what did you use when you shot this video? i asking camera model or lights etc. etc. :)
  • Scott Foley plus 1 year ago
Thanks for the compliment, Hasan. I shot this with a Canon Rebel T2i and a cheap twenty dollar tripod my parents won in a raffle. All of my lighting is natural, as this was all in actuality simply a trip back and forth from Walmart.

Memoryhouse works for me too! Im curious as to how you got the lomography look. Was it post production or some type of grading in Vegas? If it's a secret I understand. lol

  • apitel 1 year ago
Hi Scott, great film, thanks for creating this. Why did you use for color grading? Thanks!
  • Scott Foley plus 1 year ago
Hey, Apitel, thanks. I used a simple standard "warm" effect in Sony Vegas Pro 9. I also pushed up the offset a bit, to wash out the colors. Not much work at all. Hope this helps.
  •

Hi Scott, love the videos - you've nailed the aesthetic - and also love how you're replying to every comment!
My question is a boring one: how to do you control the aspect ratio to get such a cool letterbox effect? Do you need VimeoPro?
  • Scott Foley plus 1 year ago
Hey, Studio .fu. Thanks for the comment! The letter boxing effect is a little different for each editing-suit. I use Sony Vegas, so if you do as well, be sure to send me a message and I will give you all the step by step details. Yet, in general, you're just setting the initial project properties to "1280 X 544" or "1920 X 816" (depending on your shooting mode) and then cropping your footage to fit in the slimmer window. And no, no VimeoPro required, as you can see in my case. I hope this helps!
  • Adam Westbrook 1 year ago
Hey Scott, thanks for replying so quick! You are a vimeo legend for sure :)

how do you achieve such beautiful vintage colors? plus i think should have been a finalist in the experimental category for the vimeo awards
  • Scott Foley plus 1 year ago
Ah, thanks Lucas! I achieve these colors by warming up all of the tones significantly - like in photoshop, when you can apply a "warming filter."
  • Lucas Miranda 1 year ago
Oh I use those in photoshop all the time, I started using sony vegas pro 10 after being on 9 for a while. It's some sweet stuff.
