Did you know that in Shakespeare's day the common people who sat in the front rows were sometimes called the droolers? They would be so amazed with what they saw that they left their mouths open and drooled. Actors wouldn't get too close to the edge of the stage because they might slip in the puddles.

I remember hearing this from a visiting speaker in my middle school. He could have made it up....but I really WANT to believe it.
