4. Courage and Passion
Original pictures, video and Microsoft Flight Simulator segments were compiled to remember and honor the crews of the Lancaster bomber aircraft. This period of time from 1942-1945 shaped history and the way we live.
Estimates of 55,000 to 60,000 crew never saw the end of WWII. This staggering figure represents the combined efforts from British, Commonwealth and Dominion aircrews. In addition to England, Canada and Australia, dedicated aircrews from Scotland, Wales, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Barbados and Trinidad all contributed to the success of the Lancaster (often referred to as the "Lanc").

    Hello LCDoering

Wonderfully produced piece. We seem to share a passion in preserving these stories.

I used to play the earlier Microsoft European Theatre, and the much older Microprose EAW.

    Nice Job LCDoering!

    My Best Always

Thanks Di. Yes, it is hard to comprehend the magnitude of what happened during this period of time. The sacrifices are truly beyond words. I am closing in on completion of the next video.

Hauntingly magnificent and very moving film. many people of Britain today are still very gratefull of the sacrifices young men from around the world made flying in Bomber Command...

My friends late father was a `tail end charlie` tail gunner in 153 Squadron and made it through it all,
Al has wrote about his dads experiances from a diary he kept on his blog, i hope Al publishes a book of his fathers diary as it would be a great read...

here is a link to the story of 153 Squadron and his fathers experiances on Alistairs blog,
a real insight to how these young men braved and coped with the constant dangers...

Wonderful to see my Grandfather and his crew pop up at 04.41.... Their Lancaster was UL V2, PB265, 576 Squadron. The photo was taken at RAF Elsham Wolds in July 1944. Two weeks later they were shot down. The US pilot, RJ SARVIS was killed. My Grandfather was Jack Weir, Bomb Aimer.

Simon Weir: Many thanks for your comments and info! Wow, the whole story hits home hard again when I hear words like this from relatives. "Two weeks later they were shot down" certainly puts a picture into historical perspective with deep meaning. Gave me that chill!

Many thanks for your comment on my visit to a Lancaster crashing site in Lapland, Sweden. This gave me the opportunity to see your awesome and professionally produced videos about the Lancaster and WWII airfields!
