'HANDS!' (Stop-Motion Experiment with the CANON EOS 5D)
On exhibit as a video art installation at the Gasteig Cultural Museum in Munich Germany [Dec. 2008 - Feb. 2009]: gasteig.de.
A few days ago I got a Canon EOS 5D. I was so excited, I started taking random pictures of my hand, just to get the feel of pointing and shooting. I was about to trash them all, but when scrolling rapidly through the images on my camera's viewfinder, I thought they made a cool little stop-action movie.
The next day, I borrowed a tripod from my girlfriend's Dad. I also borrowed some of her 'Day of the Dead' figurines. I shot some pictures of them on the bathroom sink. I pulled the pictures into Final Cut, and then edited them to music.
The song was one I wrote and recorded a long time ago on an old Tascam 4 Track cassette recorder.
I put this together pretty quickly as an experiment, but I think it came out pretty cool.

BTW, I just went through your entire video stream... it was amazing to watch you learn and grow through each video. It was really valuable to see how quickly you were able to start mastering your camera through experimentation. I've been itching to get an HD camera - but I've been leaning more towards the Canon HV20 or 30. Also, meanwhile, as I'm saving money for the next gear purchase... I've had my eye on Red's Scarlet due in 2009 (Although, now they're scratching the project & starting over). Granted, Red is a whole new ball game. None the less, your stuff has been very inspiring tonight. I love the stuff your doing with the 35mm Adapter. Your Vids are lovely, and your family is very lovely as well. Thanks for the inspiration.
Got to do a stop motion.
