I took a 3D fabrication course over the summer and decided to try to make my own LCD viewfinder.
I took many measurements of the camera body and LCD screen, designed it in Rhino 3D, and printed it out on a 3D printer.
I used three old close-up filters I had for the lens, which gave me just the right magnification.
I designed it so that I could glue on a Canon replacement eyepiece and it would clip right on to where it normally goes (next time I will model the connector right into the piece so that it is one solid part). I realize that this is not the strongest point to connect it, but it works just fine for my use.
Works like a charm – all I need now is an eyecup.
