See all Show me
Lieutenant Dan has been deployed in Afghanistan since last October and is on his way home. But what makes it special is that he has a new baby daughter waiting to meet him for the first time. Watch as this journey unfolds throughout the day as the tension builds and the family reunites for the first time as three. It's a crusher. You can't help but feel some of the patriotism when he arrives home. As I said in a prequel to this post, this is the stuff life is all about.

I chose this song because it starts soft and subtle, with a little bit of mystery. But the end has a huge payoff that I love.

That was great! So well put together and moving! I'm curious how you got the shot in the bus...guessing they let you jump for the shot. Awesome job!

Dan actually did that himself on the bus with another comrade on his point and shoot. I got it after the event and had to use it. I thought it added a unique point of view.

Spot on! Loved it. The shot at the end was perfect, loved the light in many of the shots too. Was it just all available light?

Yep, run and gun the whole time. Overcast clouds helped at times too.

Ryan, amazing! For me I loved the part when Dan holds his daughter just after meeting her and she is smiling and giggling - that's just beautiful. That's a wonderful memory for the future.

  • Talent for days, this is an incredible piece of art in so many ways. This is the stuff life is about, without these moments we are not human. Thank you for the 6 minutes of tears, joy and inspiration. - Jason
