Holding Onto Hope - Bridges
Directed by Patrick Lawler
Panasonic HVX200 with Letus EX lens adaptor and Nikon 35mm lenses.

Holding Onto Hope is an awesome band from San Luis Obispo California, that I have recently become close friends with. Over the past month I have really enjoyed spending time and hanging out with them! To me their music is unique and passionate, and I have no doubt that they will be successful.

    nice work dude.

i'm kinda in love with the main location too.

  • Dude this is pretty sweet. I'm interested in learning a little more on how you shoot your music videos. What's your approach. I'm going to start trying to do some music video sutff and I've never shot one before. I've gotten a lot of good advice but I like just hearing what people like you, the director, has to say. Do you give the artist any kind of creative freedom to help design the video or do you just say, "Ok stand here and just play and record..."

    Please do tell...thanks :)

great job! Cory told me all about how spontaneous the shoot was. You nailed it!

Thanks man! Haha yea everything was made up about an hour before we were supposed to film it!
  • That's so cool, with the sun setting in the background and everything. Then the night stuff that looks like it's behind a house or something, that's a sweet location too. One night shoot??
  • Patrick Lawler plus 1 year ago
The night stuff was actually shot across the parking lot from the bands practice space in an old construction equipment yard that we snuck into with the generators and equipment. It was tons of fun, only one of the generators ran out of gas, and I didn't have enough power to run both of the 2k lights I rented so I didn't really get as much light as I wanted, but I'm kinda wishing I lit it so that it isn't so obviously another location, I never planned on fading from day to night until I started editing it.

Beautiful images! Did you use prime lenses?
    Any post or color correction?
  • Patrick Lawler plus 1 year ago
I use a cheap Tamron 17-35mm zoom lens, and a 50mm 1.4 prime. The only color correction that was done was during the night time shots, I gave them a more blueish tint and then at the very end I made the mountain top blue like morning instead of red like evening. Other than that the red sky and sun was caused by a fire that was up in Big Sur, which worked out to my advantage so I didn't have to do any color correction.
