A horse trainer and his 10-year-old jockey face the biggest day of their year at Mongolia's Naadam festival, which dates back to before Genghis Khan's time and celebrates the 'manly sports' of wrestling, archery and racing.

Shot on Canon 1DmkIV, 5DMkII, 550D and GoPro HD cameras. For more details on how it was shot please head over to dslrnewsshooter.com

Fabulous short film. I read your production notes on DSLR News Shooter and it is clear you planned for every eventuality in terms of the lenses and equipment you chose.

That's a lot of equipment to prep and operate on your own.

However the journalistic led end result transcends the tech obsessed and effects laden output of many of the DSLR shorts on vimeo.

Brilliant piece Dan. I've always had a fascination with the more remote parts of the world, Mongolia especially. I hope I can get the chance to shoot in that place soon. Well done. :)

Having read your blog, it makes this video even more amazing in that you had to do all the shooting yourself with no second chances. Your film has such a great look and a photographic quality to them. I shoot college lacrosse games as a one man team and this video is an inspiration.

Really impressive movie. When I first looked upon Mongolia in 'The Cave of the Yellow Dog' (2005) I knew it was a magnificent place/culture.

I personally haven't added more videos, not that I had much to share to begin with, because I had grown disappointed in all of the shallow DOF videos and it seemed that they had the effect of cheapening the final result.

But nothing more needs to be said about this video that hasn't already been said -- a perfect work of art. My hats off to you, Dan.

This festivity occurs during July 11th but many local communities celebrate Naadam throughout July and august in Mongolia.

Simply one of the most amazing films ever shot with the 5D Mark II and the 1D mark IV, both of which I also own. I also want to thank you for telling us in great detail all the settings and lenses you used and for what purposes. This film truly inspired me to concentrate more on my own work as a filmmaker.
