FIRELIGHT TEST JVC GZ-HD7
This little work is aimed at me learning a lot about light, aperture, shutter and dissolve transitions. It will be a bit boring unless you like looking at the fire!
The scene was lit with only a 200 watt, Incandescent globe,Philips 'Beauty dish' make-up light aimed into the fire place. It really did not seem to add a great deal to the overall light on camera.
It was daytime and the room itself is reasonable for natural light.
This edit is the raw, off the camera footage, no effects or colour correction. I started off running through a variety of aperture and shutter settings. Some of the 'black' flame shots were really hard to pull focus on the small LCD. I am still having HUGE problems getting used to the tiny zoom toggle.....eeekkkk.
I would really benefit from HONEST warts an all comments on this piece as this will be helping me greatly work out what kind of lights I will buy for the work ahead.
Myself, I am pretty surprised by the pictures, I had expected them to look grossly under lit and have no where near the definition that is there.
My next thing to tackle is candle flame.
There is no real attempt to edit to the music....which by the way is a piece called 'I Believe' that was written by our good friend Chris Bishop.
I recorded and mixed most of the parts [except for that extraordinary voice part] here in Australia and these were based on the original files sent over by Chris.
A real Internet collaboration, the keyboard player, Catherine Duc, was in Melbourne [1000ks away] Chris [Keys] in England. Ernie Van Veen on guitar and Donovan Gall on drums were with me here in Canberra

I think the light you used must have helped with showing up the detail on those twigs in the foreground - or else your indoor light is MUCH better than mine.
Of course it is! I live in a bloody dark "castle" where you have to walk around groping the walls, lol!
Fire itself seems to come up pretty well I have found using this camera, but when I tried filming a candle flame I got this vertical line of reflected light running through the candle flame.
I've lost that footage (or misplaced it) so I can't show you what I mean.
On the subject of filming with low light.....I'm pondering how we are going to manage to film inside the narrow crevaces of steep gorges which will be in deep shadow.
Not sure if it's going to be possible at all!
Your videography has improved since this was made, but its still good, and I feel honoured you're using my track to back this visual.
I love it, thank you!
Chris
