Governors Island is a historic military base in the middle of the New York Harbor. The tiny island was used in every major military engagement since the Revolutionary War. Now as property of New York City, it is open to the public and offers incredible panoramic views of the Manhattan, Brooklyn and New Jersey skylines. Governors Island even being considered for the host of a new Globe Theater based on the original in London.
