  • I'm amazed again and again and again at how awesome the 5D is in a low light situation. It's crisp and sharp and great color. Awesome.

There were some great shots in this one too. That crane certainly helps a lot and makes for a varied set of movements and shots.

    Keep it up.

Lovely work Mr Bloom, as always. I think we all know how amazing you are technically, but what I love most about your pieces is the way you capture people, not just their faces but a measure of their personality and spirit; and the interesting little narratives or simply colourful snatches of life. :)

I did a shoot on a pier and got a lot of wind noise, what type of mic did you use? I can't imagine that being the 5d mic, right?

Also, any tips on lighting? Or is that the light that was available that you worked with?

    Thanks Philip!

Years ago in another life, a few idiots were traveling out to the islands in a little tin boat ... some sheet aluminum held together with tar and a few ribs of wood. The thing broke apart in the waves and we (a team of Army divers stationed at Key west for a couple of months) were called in by the Coast Guard there to see if we could find any bodies ... none of them had life vests and a couple of them drowned. What a mess!
It was during a time of the changing of the tide - and it was all we could do to hold on to the tow ropes when we traveled against the current... we never found anyone, the tide was moving too swiftly to expect them to stay in the channel.
You captured much of the ambience there ... good work.

Until that time ... Earl J.

It's all there for the taking; from sword swallowing toothless wonders to Spiderman, Swashbuckling Pirates, Buskers and just plain old people, but it's how you Mister Bloom interpret all that loveliness and lay it down for all to see that makes us sit back and enjoy.
A nieave freshness is underpinned with superb technical skill which provides the viewer with an engaging, amusing and crafted snapshot of life in the tourist area of the Florida Keys. It’s been said before and will no doubt be said again, you have this uncanny knack of capturing life as it is in a beautiful and almost surreal way.
After watching any of your shorts I’m inspired to run out and start filming straight away, great film as usual Phil.
