Really enjoyed this, Riley. Beautiful cinematography and great cutting / grading. And how can you beat the shot of the hoop at 1:47 ? Enjoyed the music choice, too. Great work!
  • Riley Blakeway plus 1 year ago

  • Such good stuff. would you recommend shooting surfing with a 7D? What camera are you shooting with besides your 7D?
  • Riley Blakeway plus 1 year ago
I would, but it is quite hard... Plus you need a bunch of len's - Best one to get would probably be the 100-400 5.6

I use an EX1 for all of my surf stuff at the moment

Hey Riley...Love your work mate, colour grading and vibe of all your clips is bloody excellent. Just got a 7d myself and having a play with it. How do you go about setting up your camera for filming your slow motion stuff? ie..720p higher shutter speed etc. or do you stick to the rule of thumb 1/100 or 1/50 depending on frame rate? Cheers
  • Riley Blakeway plus 1 year ago
    Hey Darren,

    Thanks for the feedback, stoked.

I don't really have a rule of thumb for shooting slow (50 frame etc). It usually depends on the available light for me. I'm sure there would be a rule of thumb or a guideline to follow if you google it.
  • Darren McCagh plus 1 year ago
Cheers for the reply mate...I've done a fair bit of digging around since then and found that higher shutter speeds are the way to go in terms of using twixtor for anything under 50%. There's some sick videos around using the 7D and these programs for super slo-mo, but getting those results with minimal artifacting is gonna take me some practice...All the best with your upcoming stuff mate.

    Hey man, that was rad..
Did you use 'superflat' or a user defined setting with low contrast etc of some sort before taking it to post???
If so, do you do that with the majority of your video? Interested.
    Thanks
  • Riley Blakeway plus 6 months ago
    Hi Benjamin

I didn't use any picture profile settings for this clip. They weren't all that popular when I made this clip. I use some now but most of the clips on my channel are standard 7D settings possibly some with the contrast lowered. I'm using the cinestyle preset at the moment and I'm getting some cool results!
  • benjamin welch 6 months ago
    Oh realz. Nice.
Yeah i had a look at that too. Might try both, do some tests. Cheers man.
