Grand Rapids' Circle Theatre is proud to present Crowns, a moving and celebratory musical, July 24th though August 9th. Crowns explores black history and identity through the experience of a young black girl sent south to live with her grandmother following a tragedy at home.
The hats worn by churchgoers dressed in their Sunday best are their “crowns.” Cast members use their crowns to tell tales of everything from etiquette to history to society behind a soundtrack of spirituals, blues, hip hop and rap.
Crowns runs July 24th through August 9th at the Aquinas College Performing Arts Center. Tickets are on sale at the box office or by calling 456-6656. For more information, visit Circle-g-r-dot-org. Special thanks to Varnum Riddering Schmidt and Howlett Attorneys at Law and the Nokomis Foundation for making these performances possible.
It’s not summer in Grand Rapids without Circle Theatre.
