It definitely was a registration pin issue! I was using a K-3 and discovered that if I loaded the film in a specifically "wrong" way I could get it to skip the registration pin. I think the effect is kind of like seeing a wider moment in time with each frame. Thanks a lot for the comment!
A bunch of different places, actually. The farmhouse, fire and fields are in Lincolnville, ME - I recorded some audio there, too. The crows, small birds and C-5 Galaxy (the huge howling jet) are from a farm in Hadley, MA. The train is is the Vermonter. Finally, the bridges are in Bath, ME. Maybe you didn't want that much detail... haha.
