This video is from 2006. My friends Rosa and Michel of Limitless Sky Records had known Kasheba when they were in Tanzania. They recorded some tracks with him, but Kasheba passed away before the album was released. They did happen to shoot some video footage of him at his home singing the song "Refugees." When they came to me and asked me to make a video from it, I told them I'd only do it if I could take their footage and reinterpret their footage and make it my own. So we edited his performance together and took to the streets. Michel hooked a some boat batteries up to video projector. We drove alleys, around skid row, all over the town finding moments to put Kasheba into! Shot on the DVX-100A.
"Ndala Kasheba fled Zaire for Tanzania in 1968. He lived as a refugee for over 30 years of his life. This song is dedicated to his children and to all the children of refugees worldwide."
