An edit of some highlights from the preparations for a performance of a play by The Italian Association “NIMA” (The Association of Cypriots in Italy), which presented "IL FILO E LE OMBRE" (The Wire and the Shadows) to a London audience.
The play was performed within the context of Cyprus Week 2008, a week of cultural and political activities held annually in London, in this the 34th year following the Greek Junta coup and invasion by Turkey, and Turkey's continuing occupation of 37% of the island.
Il Filo e le Ombre was premiered in November 2007 in the theatre Tordinona (Rome - Italy). The play tells the tales of Caterina Cornaro Queen of Cyprus's exalting story. This innovative production features the Theatre of Shadows 'Karagiozis' (from Cyprus), Arlecchino (Venetian Mask), actors from Rome and Venice, romani with both a classic and a modern artistic background. Music is inspired by the Italian Barocco, the Salentin Greek and by Cyprot folk music.
The play is performed in modern Italian and Venetian dialects, with English language title projections onto a big screen throughout the performance, to enable non-Italian speakers to follow the dialogue.
