Nice one. Curious what you used to trigger your Nikon SLR for the intervals.
  • Be Well ;-) 1 month ago
    thanks rastAsia :)

I use a wired intervalometer from China. It's called an Aputure Remote Timer Cord and cost a fraction of what the Nikon Equivalent would have. I will include some pictures of it in my next video...

Nice one bud, but what happened with the aspect ratio? Looks like vimeo pulled it out to 16:9.
  • Be Well ;-) 1 month ago
    thanks bud,

I was going to change this when I first uploaded this, but then the squat look kind of grew on me ;-)

PS, would it be possible for you to scale down your 1440x1080 (to maybe ~960x720) and work on a 1280x720 black canvas and thus pillar box it, i.e. black vertical bars left and right, this should still trigger a vimeo HD rendering?
  • Be Well ;-) 1 month ago
I'll leave it as it is so people can view the original file should they choose to download it. I can always re-render in Premiere to produce the 16:9 aspect ratio if I need too :)
  • 4Moorhens2 1 month ago
If you do re-render it, please don't crop it to 16:9 - I really like its vertical nature: that powerful "big" sky, which you have captured so beautifully in the posted still photo taken from a similar camera angle. Guess that's why I don't feel happy with the "squat look"...
  • Be Well ;-) 1 month ago
...the photo came from one of the frames used in this video - can you guess which one ;-)
  • 4Moorhens2 1 month ago
Phew! That was a toughy - maybe from near the start with the heavy dark uppermost cloud added as another layer - or something like that?
  • Be Well ;-) 1 month ago
    close...
  • 4Moorhens2 1 month ago
OK, last guess: perhaps you used a magnetic lasso - replacing the entire cloudscape with a different cloudscape, this being the base layer, then using the church picture as a second layer; that second layer being one of the early frames where the church and graveyard was well lit?
  • Be Well ;-) 1 month ago
ok, I'll put you out of your misery ;-)

It was actually frame #006 and because you don't see it in this due to the fade-in I will give it to you. I did a rough photoshop on it just to boost the blue of the sky whilst preserving the rest of the image, then added some saturation to bring out the colours and finally adjusting the gamma.

This is just one photo though, just with several layers applied ;-)

Ah! So DSC_0006 is the one, cheers boss.

Very cool time lapse, really like the audio, works so well with the image(s). How did you do that? Are you a fellow Geordie in exile?
  • Be Well ;-) 1 month ago
    Thanks John :)

Images are captured using a DSLR (1,666) in this video, and I usually do post production to balance the images. I chose not to in this one as the light from the sun in the upper left creates a flicker which usually I remove, but seems to work with this. The audio is then subtly 'key framed' to the flickers without being too noticeable.

Oh, aye am a Geordie - though not in exile as a good job and family keep me feet in the South, but me heed is allways with the Toon ;-)

Nice, I really like it, all the different aspects just work together. People who do timelapse have my respect, I don't have the patience to stay in the same place retaking the same shot long enough for a proper timelapse piece. :)
    Good vid, keep it up.
  • Be Well ;-) 1 month ago
    thanks Georgina,

I'm very fidgety when I'm out time-lapsing so I usually occupy myself with a book, checking on the camera every once in a while :)
  • Georgina Ditton 1 month ago
That's a good idea, I might try it if I get bored over the hols. I'd have to be careful what book & what location I use though or I'd get so engrossed in the book that I look up & the camera's gone!!! :)
  • Be Well ;-) 1 month ago
hehehe - yeah I often worry about that too :D

Good luck with the time-lapse Georgina, hope to see one from you soon :-)

I love how the lens flare steadily evolves as the sun moves on this one. Great work :-)
  • Be Well ;-) 1 month ago
thanks, I usually use a lens hood - but, well I decided to go totally natural with this one and it seemed to pay off :)

And again Be Well:), it looks really for me like the church is fly like a UFO trough the sky.
