This is the Marketing Trailer we produced at RealtimeUK for the new "DiRT 3" game from Codemasters.

The movie is one continuous piece of car physics, on one continuous camera.

It was a challenge producing an animatic that was hand animated and trying to conform physics to those cameras and timings. We ended up having to increase the timings on some sections and shorten them on others, as the car physics ran at different speeds to the animatic.

The other challenge was getting all of the environments to seamlessly match up using the same car pass and cameras.

The job was completed using 3dsmax and Vray, then composited in AfterFX.

On and off, it took about 6 Artists approximately 3months to complete.

I was the Lead Artist on the job. I produced some of the animatic, cleaned and animated the car physics (supplied by codemasters), and completed the lighting, compositing and rendering for the movie.

This is ace, I look forward to the day when the game looks this good.

There is hardly anything to fault with this, I would have liked to have seen it go on and on.

Is there any chance of a break down of what you have done? I think you have done this in the past. I'd love to know what has gone into making this, what would be just as interesting as the trailer its self.

The sound design is as far as I can tell perfect, the snow scene sounds exactly as it should.

    I found this amazing, 6 artists / 3 month :)
This is something we have to "manage" to have in Eastern Europe. For this kind of work I guess we'd have 2 artists / 3 weeks and probably /10 budget. Great work anyway!

I figured it out as to how this marketing trailer was done!
MAGIC! Like the rabbit out of the hat, disappearing and reappearing people and animals. Seasonal changes under a minute is beautiful. Fire and ice, hard and soft juxtaposition presented in explosive short hand entices me to see behind RealtimeUK's ultra modern magical curtain.

From an adoring fan. Love what you are doing.
