Music has the power to change our moods and behaviour. We all have our own personal soundtrack to our lives - special tunes which trigger lovely memories, songs tinged with sadness, even tracks we've already chosen to go out to at our funerals. But one scientist has claimed that music is no more than “auditory cheesecake”: it can make us feel good but is not essential for the survival of the human race.
