You didn't specify the frame rate(s) and recording formats of the Barbie. Also, the Barbie seemed to do better with exposure, and appeared to have a very useful wide angle lens.

The 7D is a bit out of my price range and quite frankly so is the Barbie cam... but I think I'm willing to splurge for the extra quality that the plastic hand in every frame adds - pure professional technique.

Nicely done, another case has been made for me to get a 7D one day.

Well that is just plain ridiculous. What is the point in comparing a 7D with a Barbie. They are for totally different markets. One is for filmmakers making movies, music videos, documentaries etc...the other is for me to fiddle with when I get lonely in my hotel rooms.

It does have a small microphone... right below the lens on the chest there's two teeny-tiny holes. It sounds a lot like the audio on a cell phone video would sound.

I'm definitely waiting for someone to develop an XLR adapter for the Barbie so we can start hooking up boom mics and lavs.

That's when Mattel will really start giving the prosumer market a run for its money!

the iphone4 and co have good images these days, but i'm personally seeking & waiting for more good/quite ok build-in mics. For being a non-professional camera user @ some gigs, it would be heaven for me if something you can grab without annoying too much people beside you (like that doll, even if it's very kitsch) could be a plain tool for music and video recordings.
