Great work Matthew / Nathan! Fuck man, I'm amazed at how you can edit with so much material, and so many quick cuts/effects. I loved the timing, as always it flows beautifully with the music. Favorite spots are the slow-downs and speed-ups, especially the girl running after the kid waves good-bye. Fantastic work.
  • Thank you, Joaquin!! Yeah, that little girl beginning to run after the little boy...I had to make sure to exhibit the entire shot somehow, so I used it as the build up! I really appreciate the nice words, man! Thank you!

  • Yeah, it was only Sony Vegas...although the Japan title in the beginning was made in photoshop. No, the camera is a friend's camera. He's the one who shot this piece. I edited it only this time. :)

I think this work, Matthew, with the 7d, demonstrates how far you have come in audio and visual montage.

The film is both lyrical and stunning in its delivery. It shows your mastery and complete understanding of the medium.

    A rare ... Wow!
  • Bob, thank you so much, man! I appreciate the encouragement!
  •
  • Wow!
No doubt, you are the greatest editor on vimeo!

Matthew, wonderful, wonderful! As I use Sony Vegas as well, I am very curious as to how you go about your time-remapping (speeding up/slowing down). If you could give me a little insight, it would be much appreciated. Well done.
  • Thank you, Scott! Well, I just put the cursor at the edge of the video clips, hit the shift key, click and hold the mouse and drag. Not sure if that's what you were asking about, hehe. thank you for the nice words, man!

I'm tired of always saying the same kind of things in every video you put up. I'm running out of ways and words to express my joy of watching each and every one of your clips.

So sensual. A perfect antidote to "The Cove" to make me feel good about Japan!
  • Did you notice the whale sounds throughout the video? ;) I hinted at it..but just barely. :)
  • Dan McComb plus 1 year ago
I totally noticed. That was a brilliant and subtle reference.

Matt!! I've seen a lot of Japan montage videos on here... but I can honestly say, having lived in Japan a couple years, this is the only one that really captured the feeling one has while in Japan. Fantastic work, once again!
  • Wow, thank you for that! I was hoping I'd get Japan right in the emotion and life of it, hehe.

You edit like a champ, Matthew. Life must be pretty dramatic through your eyes.

I think it's fitting enough just to say... "what they (^) said." Hopefully we will be able to work together down the line on something geared towards social change. It is great that you have gathered such a large following that allows you to share your talents with the world. If my business plan and ideas come to fruition in the future, it is you that I will keep in mind!
  • Thank you so much, Matt! I'd love to work with you, man!

Truly breathtaking Matthew, another masterpiece. I have to ask a second time - was this REALLY all edited in Vegas Pro? Simply outstanding.
I need you to give me Vegas editing tips one day! Truly inspiring. For some reason I cannot seem to edit such high definition video with so many fast cuts, my PC just gets too bogged down. :(

Truly awesome work, as usual. :)
  • Thank you, Tom! Yeah, all of it was in Sony Vegas. The Japanese title at the beginning was done in photoshop. I appreciate words! :)

Always a treat to watch your stuff Matthew, and as always perfectly matched score. My personal favorites are the hoola hoopers, and woman at train station. Alltogether compelling and inspirational. (What's that you shoot with again? The camera quality is so exceptional.)

The video is of course as lovely as always, but it is very unfortunate that you exported at 1440x1080. My PS3 is playing the video on TV squashed, as 4:3 (Vimeo had implemented a workaround at my request, to force 16:9 for 1440 videos, so we don't see the issue here, despite Vimeo's inability to read non-square pixel aspect ratios). Replacing the video and re-exporting at 1920x1080, or at 1280x720 (if you zoomed a lot during editing), for us who would like to enjoy the video in a big TV screen, would be most appreciated!!!
