Do You Believe? Another World Is Possible World Social Forum, Mumbai (Bombay), India
This film examines from a cultural perspective different aspects and meanings of knowledge. It gives a feeling of the sounds and sites of the first World Social Forum outside of Brazil, in Mumbai, India. This conference had 100,000 delegates from all over the world as a counterweight to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. It is a positive and optimistic film that focuses on differentiating between intellectualized, de-intellectualized, and spiritual knowledge and gives a feeling of cultural interaction between East and West, North and South. Interviews with an Indian educator, an Indian lawyer, an Indian professor, a Catholic Indian nun, a Tibetan nun from Katmandu, a Harvard University professor, an Irish activist, and a Portuguese social worker, with overlays of photos and videos of India leave the viewer wanting more.
