  • Holy shit dude. Bravo. At first I was preparing myself for something boring but then everything picked up. I loved the minimal use of music, the cinematography, the voice acting, and the elements from Twilight Zone and 2001: Space Odyssey. I loved everything. Nice job.

Good reference to 2001; Space Odyssey , Sunshine , REC for the end . One of the best Machinima By far .

This was really well done, i never expected to watch a 20 minute halo machinima and have it go by so fast. although i have noticed some things that might have made it better. I think that if there were more main characters on the ship, it would have helped the audience get more attached to the survivors as well as the fact the a ship that big would probably have a large crew. The ending was pretty open, which is great assuming there is going to be a sequel. my favourite part was actually the end with the force looking for the crew and if you were planning on a sequel, i'd love to see it using the head cams like you did but with a bigger crew then 3 or 4. Now i'm going to stop being negative and say that the intro was amazing, the dark editing was perfect and the voice acting wasn't terrible for like the first time ever in a halo machinima. well done and I hope you don't take my criticism to offence because it really was a great video or else i wouldn't of left this novel of a comment.

    lol sorry for the length.

how long does the production take for a film like this?
  • James Dubose 1 year ago
Production began on June 19th. All scenes were puppeteered/filmed in one weekend. After that, the rest was doing post production and a good amount of waiting to get all of the voice work in. Actual accumulated production time was probably around 2 weeks.

Sweet Jesus... That was fantastic. Slow in the beginning, but was somewhat necessary to portray the space flight and overall mood. Well done.

I was blown away. Your are not only a superbly talented film maker, who not only understands the tools at his disposal, but uses them thoughtfully and with precision. The overall mood for the machinima was masterfully crafted, and you used Halo three to your advantage, not as a distraction as other so called machinima directors do. Your sound mixing and editing was also something that surprised me, as not many random people right off the internet do that well. Did you happen to see the movie Solaris or Moon, because it seemed that you had a similar film style. Keep 'em coming please! And btw, I liked the two person crew and the dynamic between them.
  • James Dubose 1 year ago
Thanks. I have seen Moon, but I can't say it was an active influence when making this. Perhaps subconsciously?

My reason for mentioning Moon was that I found the main protagonist evolving from a seemingly placated employee to a more disturbed rebel fighting against his environment... but I dunno, maybe it's a stretch lol. It's just that I'm a writer and I tend to find connections, even if they're not necessarily there.

    Nice machinima.
I belong to Halo Creation, a french fan-art website.
We would like translate this machinima and create a subtitle version.
Are you agree with this idea ?
  • James Dubose 1 year ago
I have no problem if you guys want to do that.
  • Guyl Bastien 1 year ago
For the best subtitling, we need the video file and the script if you have.
If you have some question, my email adress is vilghost@hotmail.fr and my name is Vilghost on our site, halocreation.superforum.fr
