3. A Light in the Darkness - Part One
This is part one of a two part Star Wars fan film.

A young boy watches as the Jedi who saved his people is killed by the very clones who once fought by his side.

Years later, as a member of a small insurgency against the empire he and his team hatch a new plan to take back their planet by drawing the attention of the newly formed rebel alliance.

Armed with the fallen Jedi’s light saber, he and his team battle to strike fear into the local imperial garrison, and overthrow their despotic governor. Their silent attacks give birth to a legend, and the people speak of a phantom Jedi whose spirit has returned.

As the story spreads they manage to draw attention to their forgotten corner of the galaxy, but who will arrive first, the rebel alliance or the empire?

Wow, I'm pretty sure any Star Wars fan (esp those of us in the production world) would like this! The women were nice too, lol. Keep it up! I'm dying to see part II :-D

Fan videos aren't supposed to copy every little detail of the original. I think you need to review the copyright rules of posted videos.

Saber Effects: REALLY!?!? The saber effect was good enough stop being petty. CG is hard to do depending on what you have at your disposal and who's doing it and how much time you have to work on it.

Music: Again, review copyright rules/laws before criticizing. Yea the music was lackluster at points but whatever, it's a fan film not a the 7th Star Wars movie.

Jedi with Kid: I know what you mean, I think they could have done a little better on the visual story telling with their relationship but the Jedi "showing him the force" (not gonna lie that was pretty funny, lol) I wasn't thinking like that when I saw it initially.

Dear Production Team of A Light in the Darkness, I, along with many others, think your fan film is fine. You seem to be doing the best you can considering what you are working with and that I applaud. And I'm not trying to start an online fight but I went to Mr. Geoffrey Shauger's profile and this note from Vimeo came up: "Sorry, Geoffrey Shauger doesn't have any videos yet." ... Looks like we have some arm chair directing/producing going on. Continue making Part II and I'm sure many of us are looking forward to it.

  • Nice work. Very impressive fan film. The film is extremely technically proficient. Absolutely beautiful cinematography. However, I wish there would have been a little more attention to story, character, and casting/actors.

The characters don't exactly feel organic in the rules already proposed by the Star Wars films. The main thing that stuck out to me was the death of the Jedi in the first five minutes! He's a Jedi! He was shot down by two clone-troopers with rinky-dinky blasters. They should have been as good as toast! It just seemed a tad too convent as a plot device that he be taken down so easily. :P

Directorially, it is very solid. However, I wish the director could have gotten more from the actors. They don't exactly seem comfortable in their scenes and tend to hit the same notes during conversation. That said, the performances aren't horrendous, just a little soft and open ended.

It is always a tricky thing dealing with the Star Wars universe. There are so many elements needed to really sell the entirety of the film. Nevertheless the film is undoubtedly strong piece of work. Excellent work all around.

Loved the film, and can't wait to see part two. The cinematography was fantastic (we use the 7D 5D as well and it produces amazing video).

I'm always torn about Star Wars Fan films though. On the one hand you have instantly recognizable themes, sets, characters etc, but on the other, there isn't nearly enough good sci-fi out there, and with talent like yours you could be developing new and exciting intellectual property. Maybe even the next star wars.

I think our composer did an excellent job creating original scores for this film. Not using music from the original films is a matter of taste and preference, not production quality.

I am still very proud of our cast and crew for their accomplishments.

Really well done guys. I actually disagree with the critics. The story was actually richer than most fan films I've seen. There is some actual character development and you made interesting to watch without a lot of lightsaber tricks. Looking forward to part 2. Also I enjoyed the music and I'm as hardcore a star wars fan as they come. Great job, please keep it up.

I loved this, the girl was the only none convincing part. The Han Solo vibe was to forced. Other than that extremely impressive.

Really terrific work guys you should be proud of yourselves for this.

I agree with some of the people here with regards to acting/dialogue etc... but the production values are really top notch.

It kept me interested from start to finish. I was also really impressed by the cinematography :)

Please keep doing what your doing, I want more!!!

Brilliant. Without being patronising in any way, this is good enough for TV, and you guys should know it.

Tamayo and Wetherbee, you've created a script which is genuinely moving in parts, stirring in others, while still being a worthy addition to the expanded universe.

Pollard's work is gorgeous and perfectly suited to the mood.

Ingermann's costume work must be about the best I've seen done on this sort of budget. The non-humans in the piece look convincing. Cheesiness is the enemy, and it's been lightly deflected.

Special kudos to the lead actors, Whitten and Cordone. Whitten is utterly compelling. The character seems to believe his surroundings. There is a darkness in him the audience can sense, a humanity to him, but he's the pure good guy we can all get behind.

Cordone is lovely, of course, and the little details of her character she manages perfectly. The wink, the swapping of the glasses, the wry banter - lesser actors could not have made it seem anything but staged. These guys pulled it off.

I have no idea who played the Jedi at the start, but he was perfect. He got it all - the calm, the patience, yet the vague sense of restrained power.

All up, four thumbs up, a feat for which I'd have to be an untrustworthy off-world merchant.

Very well done. I had seen some bts pics on facebook from some Full Sail classmates, a while back. The Art Dept. did a hell of a job on this.
