My sister and her husband tried for many years to become pregnant with no luck. They became Foster parents and soon they were able to adopt 2 boys and a girl all brothers and sister. This was a party held in their honor as they became legally part of our family.

This film is dedicated to them.

Nice Vid Jared.. I like the manipulation of the speed and choice of shots to include bright contrasting colors. Good Stuff....hope to get my stuff up soon.

I look forward to seeing some of your work. The speed came only because of necessity as I had 2 8gb P2 cards and no way to dump them so I had to "overcrank" to be able to shoot as many shots as I did. If I had more room I would of "undercranked" to 60FPS for the whole shoot. I love that look.

And we've got another winner. I like how you capitalized "Foster" in the description. Clever! ;-)

Those three kids are truly blessed to now officially be a part of your family! What a touching story.

    P.S.
My wife and I watched this together. ;-)

You can only imagine the "foster" jokes I heard growing up. Two of which my sister name is Jody (and no relation to the movie star) and that any close friends of my family became "foster kids" to my parents.

Glad to hear hear you and the wife saw it together.

Jared, this was really well done and seems to have captured the fun and energy of the party nicely. Definitely like the use of over/under cranking here. Good editing to the music, too.

I would like to say I planned it but as luck had it I only did it as I wanted to shoot on my P2 cards and I was running out of room. When shooting undercranking you get a ton more time because you are shooting less frames. My favorite in overcranking at 60FPS but be ready to upload your footage before your done shooting. Thanks for your comments.

  • This was awesome, and congrats to your family! the guys at 2:38 look choreographed... even the way they stand after they fly the planes is exactly the same.

    They must be brothers... :)

I never noticed that but now it cracks me up. Thanks for the insight. It could be the new olympic sport? Nah...

Looks like the party was a good time!
Excellent video, very well put together.

My wife liked this a lot too! What was the song used?

Glad to hear you and you wife saw this together. Seems like were not the only ones sharing these cool projects by ourselves but with our love ones.

The music is The Shins "We Will Become Silhouettes" which is a really cool cover from The Postal Service.

Great stuff, Jared. Absolutely timeless and magical. Your have a Wes Anderson of the real world/documentary style.

very entertaining, well edited and uplifting mood.
that undercranking adds so much here.
what lenses do you use? how often do you change them?
  • Jared Foster plus 1 year ago
I use the Nikon 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 135mm. I mainly use the 50 & 85mm. I don't remember how often I changed them but not often. Shooting moving kids is challenging. The under-cranking only came as a convenience to save space on the P2 cards on the Panasonic camera but also I did want to see what the effect would look like. Choosing the music was the hardest part.

Awesome! Children are some of the most unbridled actors on the stage of life! My son is a little over two and my wife and I feel that it is our supreme mission to document all his twists and turns. I've only edited a small amount of the material we've accumulated, so this and the rest of your work is inspiring to me to get off my bum and get to work. Thanks again for sharing such cool and crafted memories!
