The latest installment of the Scion A/V Garage 7” series proudly presents contributions from two legends of the 1990s’ garage rock revival. Though the Oblivians have sporadically toured since they disbanded in 1998, “Oblivion” is their first new song since 2003. It’s a quick and dirty tune, set aflame by desperate wails and a chain link guitar solo that proves they haven’t lost any of the wildness they built their rep on. The B-side features a new song by Andre Ethier, former lead singer and guitarist of The Deadly Snakes. With its warm organ sounds and strange aphorisms, “Promising Rainbows” continues the strange tradition of Canadians making some of the world’s finest southern, soulful rock.
