Here is a video that walks you through the different types of configurations for the Canon HDDSLR cameras that I use on production these days. It includes a thorough description of the newer pieces of equipment that I have put into play in the past few months. Should you want to find out more about each piece of equipment - please check out: blog.vincentlaforet.com/MYGEAR/
I plan on doing these types of videos every few months as new equipment becomes available and as include it into my HDDSLR productions.

This shows the "high end" selection we are all dreaming of. What would be a "starter kit" that is still "good to use" and not wasting money by "buying two times" in the end ? That's what I would love to know ....

As usual ... Many Thanks for posting these cool videos ...

Yes indeed the old Zeiss LWZ.2 Lightweight 15.5-45mm T2.6 Zoom @ $ 29,000.00 is a little out of my price range too!!

I love it Vince. You seem to be doing a great job at transporting your still photography brilliance to the realm of cinematography. I sincerely appreciate the videos you take the time to make, great bits of information for my noggin.

See you at the Canon EXPO next week!

Really great gear compilation, Vince. A gear package worthy of the icon that you are in this field. It would be great to see what you'd recommend to somebody that might be on a smaller budget, but wanting to do essentially the same thing (film/TV production), all be it on a smaller scale.

That's actually coming in the next week or so - I'm going to start by listing all of the gear I use - and then I'll get into kits - this stuff takes a lot of time - so bear w/ me...

    Vincent,

Thank you for taking the time to show us what's out there and how you are using it.

I love the Viewfactor LCD you used as an EVF. Judging by the broadcast quality BNC connections it's a 3" LCD with HD-SDI? Are you aware of an HDMI version?

Any pics of this rig all wired up?

    Thanks!!

great video Vincent...quick question if you dont mind

Notice you use the Glidecam 4000HD which I also use...I use this with with my 5D MKII + 1DMKIV, should I get a vest/arm to add to my Glidecam or save for the Steadicam Flyer or Zephyr?

    Really appreciate your advice
    Daniel

    Hi Daneil,
did you ever receive an answer to your question?
I'm in the same boat, playing a 7d with a 2000HD, and am wondering if I should get a vest... Did you end up purchasing one? If so, is it worth it?
  • Daniel Peters plus 1 year ago
    Hi John

Still haven't been able to afford a vest and arm haha...im sure it will def come in handy, all depends on how much you will be shooting that way to risk spending that much on it ha.

If you get one, please keep me updated on how you get on with it :)

Hey Vincent, what glass did you use for this video? I'm having a hard time finding more than a few hdslr videos shot with the new compact primes.

    When can we see some?

    Thanks!

Thanks Vincent very helpful. I see, like me, you love the GoPro but trying to remember the menus and what they mean has been driving me crazy so I created a free downloadable printable pdf from my website that has all the menu codes typed on a tiny piece of paper that fits perfectly in the waterproof housing of the camera digitalslrshooter.com/ Go to my homepage and see the 'GoPro Cheat Sheet' post.
    Hope it helps

it's odd that every time you touch the rig it jiggles.
not sturdy like a real 35mm film camera.
just saying. .. watch shooting in a strong wind.

I love your kit, I would love to have an array that large to work with one day.

Have you got an unreleased firmware on the 7d? as I thought the HDMI out from the 7d is cropped to 480p? so how are you getting full HD through HDMI?
  •
  • Vincent,
Thanks for these videos! I love seeing all the new gear. If you ever have people approaching you about inexpensive but sturdy DIY gear. I have posted a few How To videos on my page of some gear that I have designed and built with items that you can buy right off the shelf of you local hardware store.

Vincent have you seen the new Impero HDSLR Controller that viewfactor is coming out with? Looks very impressive. Do you know anything about what it does? According to the site you can control focus via the USB input of the camera.

    Hey Vincent,
I'm currently looking to set up a rig for my 7D through any means (DIY included), for hopefully under $500-$1000.
I'm a student, and while I'm getting some gigs, I'm not making that much money.
Do you know of any good rigs or parts that would meet that price point?

I actually wish you didn't buy such expensive equipment, but I understand why... Thanks a million for all you instructional videos
  •
  • Every once in awhile, I will watch this video just to see the insane equipment people r rigging to their 5dmk2
after watching the Zucuto camera comparisons, Im thinking the Sony F3 or if budget permits (which here we see 29K for a lens for a $2400 camera- so Im assuming budget does permit) Ari Alexa.
