Famous the world over for its peerless macro and muck diving, the Lembeh Strait region offers encounters with weird and wonderful critters. They don't call Lembeh Straits the Muck Diving Capital of the World for nothing!

Thanks to Bos Mike and dive guide Stenly from NAD Lembeh for the great dive service.

Wife has just got a Canon 5D and is having heaps of fun with the video.

Thanks Andy. Yes I have heard good comments about the 5D video for underwater. Have you/wife read the review of the 5D for underwater video by Backscatter? Pretty exhaustive :)

Thanks Elisabetta! I'm fortunate that Lembeh Straits is so accessible to us here in Singapore. Hope you have the chance to go someday.

This is an amazing video, you have catch almost all the "most wanted" critters of Indonesian coast!
You are so lucky to have seen in person all these marvel of nature!
may I ask how many dive you did at Lembeh, to collect and gather all the footage? Were the dive far from each other? I am curious to know if it's possible to see all these beauties only staying in one place, or if you need to take a live onboard cruise to go to the different spots?

I was in Komodo few month ago, it was great as well ;)

Well, keep posting your beautiful work it makes our days brighters!

    Dear Sabine,

Thank you for your encouraging words! It is what motivates all of us video lovers to keep doing what we do.

I did 16 dives in Lembeh Straits. A liveaboard is not necessary because all the sites are close to one another. Basically the sites are just peppered along the coast of the mainland and Lembeh Island. The sites are also near to the resorts so you get to head back to resort for a nice lunch and rest.

All the footage was captured over the 16 dives, and the sites were between 10-30 minutes away. Lembeh Straits is also very calm due to the fact that it is a narrow straits so the diving is really relaxing.

Jul-Aug water temperature can be a little cold (26-27celsius) so bring a full suit. (well is cold by my tropical standards :) )

I hope you have the chance to dive in Lembeh someday, and while you're in Manado dont forget to check out Bunaken Marine Park as well.

    Take care!

    Dear Markus,

thanks a lot for the detailed explanations!
"Little cold" is kind of funny as I dive sometimes at home in winter, around 15°... 27/28 will be good enough for me ;)
I was amazed by the time I could spend underwater in Komodo, as it's kind of shallow and very warm, I had some 70 minuts dives! That was amazing!

Well, thanks again, and I'm looking forward to see new videos from you :)

    Take care!

  • Smokin video Markus!

I noticed the Coleman shrimp on the fir urchin, the female had a parasite attached to its right side....i see a few shrimp of different species with that....

The cuttlefish and the frogfish footage rocked, especially the hairy frogfish.
  • Markus Yong 1 year ago
Thanks! Yes I wished I had more time to spend with the Coleman shrimp.... On review of the footage I realised I could have used better angles....

    Loved the the hairy frogfish!

Btw I am planning my next Macro video trip... Do you have any places to recommend in the Philippines besides Anilao?
