What if we reclaim St Mary's Italian Church of Salem and turn it into a community center for performance, art, events and education? That’s the question posed in this short video underscored by a live and unplugged original musical performance by Salem’s Clay Ventre.
St. Mary’s is a beautiful community-built church that was seized by the Catholic Archdiocese of Boston in 2003, along with two other associated properties and the parish bank account. The properties were later sold for two million dollars. A local group has formed to raise funds to re-purchase the church back from its present owners, save its art, history and architecture and return it to community usage.
