The Religious Roundtable was founded by Ed McAteer, a member of Adrian Rogers church. Rogers was the first President elected in the fundamentalist takeover of the Southern Baptist Convention. The takeover began in 1979. Reagan is introduced by W.A Criswell, pastor of First Baptist Church of Dallas. Paige Patterson, co-architect of the fundamentalist takeover of the SBC is visible on the platform along with Jimmy Draper, who will become one of the SBC takeover Presidents. Other Baptists visible in the video clip include James Robison, Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson. Robison organized the Dallas meeting to demonstrate the political clout of the religious right in secular politics.
