This is very very well done. I love the style. It would be cool to build a flash application to let people type with this font and save out video or swf files :)

That's so awesome! But I've always wondered, with an animated font like this, are each letter a separate video file? Is there a quick and easy way to use it? Or do you have to postition the letters manually? And tracking and stuff like that...?
  • Jeroen Krielaars plus 1 year ago
Every animated character is on it's own shapelayer in Adobe After Effects. Therefore every character has to be positioned by hand. But since this font is suited for short stuff, instead of bodytext, it's still fairly quick to set up.
  • Espen Jakobsen 1 year ago
That's true, and you could also probably use a Y-position expression to line them up easily. What an inspiring project! :)

    Really fresh and inspiring.
Not sure if it's really usable for any project with another design though.

    Nice anyway ;)

i love the simplicity...i love the sophistication. as we move further away from analog text to 100% digital the animated word seems like a plausible solution/trend/something. i wish i could make the word "bravo" dance because i'd make it dance for you, Calango.

  • Fantastic work. Love this idea. Have you seen Colin Sebestyen's Futura livefont: vimeo.com/7293141

Also, Digital Kitchen did something for the Webbies a few years back I think: vimeo.com/1533283

Thanks for the comments and links. This proves that you can rarely make unique work. I really like the one from Digital Kitchen.

Btw: I guess you posted a quickie over at Motionographer, rigth? That really made my day! Thanks!
  • @Bran Thanks man! @ Jeroen Krielaars If you want to get this puppy working in AE driven by a text layer or set up a motionfont in Motion or Live type, drop me a message.

Amazing. How in the world did you animate it? Gobs of keyframes with After Effects's pen tool? Adobe Illustrator? Something else entirely? Thanks for the inspiration. :)

excellent work. by the way, what is the typeface at the end for the word "calango"? i love that lowercase g!
  • Jeroen Krielaars plus 1 year ago
Thanks. That typeface is a heavily customized times new roman. The g is a combination of the original g and a flipped j.

I have to say this is a brilliant idea for a new type of text plugin to after effects with an external application as the builder. The builder would allow you design your own fonts and the plugin would allow you to play them back in after effects in a manageable way, processing could probably allow you create the builder. The applications are wide, the export of the builder could possibly generate shapes for SVG and there for even web typefaces could be created. Just a wildly creative suggestion :) Great work sir.

    Hi,

I know. I've been researching this idea and even talked with a couple of developers. But the programming would be so hard, I haven't found anyone up for it.

If you know a good plug-in developer...
