WONG:
And in Germany, supporters of NTD have been protesting the decision of its satellite company, Eutelsat, to shut-down the station's broadcast.
STORY:
Ever since Eutelsat cut of NTD's broadcast to China, rights activists have been concerned that uncensored news is not reaching the mainland, leaving potentially millions of NTD viewers in the dark.
[Andreas Steinau, Supporter]: "We have now been standing here for one week. In my view we should have stayed here much earlier -immediately after Eutelsat cut the signal to China.”
Steiner has gathered here with other supporters of freedom of the press at Eutelsat's German office in Cologne. He says the response from passers-by is by and large positive.
[Andreas Steinau, Supporter]:
"The people passing encourage us quite a lot and are very supportive.
[Thomas Keller, NTD Supporter]:
"Of course economic interests stand against ideals here, and I would find it very good if the broadcast would be restored. Because this is the aim of the people and has nothing to do with profit.
[Ms Mues, NTDTV Supporter]:
"This is a scandal. If find it a scandal that so many western organizations follow economic decisions and don't want to hear people's voice anymore.
[Andreas Steinau, Supporter]:
"It is our wish that Eutelsat doesn't bow to China.
Mr. Steinau says that supporters will continue to protest until NTD's signal is restored.
