THE BEAT OF NEW YORK - A STEREOSCREEN PRODUCTION

Thomas Noesner, our DoP, was in New York for a Mercedes shoot. Right after the job, he took his camera and strolled through the busting streets of „The City“. While screening the pictures of a drummer in the tube station, I had the idea of creating a „remix“ of the recorded drum sequence to use it as a soundtrack for the film. That´s when our sounddesigner Toussaint came into play... We simply composed a track around the drum beat of this guy. Watch and listen to the beat of New York!

Tim!, wickedly impressed with your seamless audio editing. Just when I thought the drummer was perfectly tied in, the line with the "yellow shoes" hits and I'm like "damn"!, super fresh bro, I'm sold. New York, here I come..
Actually been there once but It was in the dead of summer and I didn't get to see much of the city. I'd love to go around my b-day in Oct! I'm all pumped now for NY!

PS: beautiful imagery and grading as well, I love my 5D2 too : )
    Love and Aloha, Kalani-
  • tim hahne plus 1 year ago
Hey Kalani! yeah, the rode mic isn´t bad, too... using the zoom a lot, as well... hope you´ll have a nice time in n.y. - but your home in Maui seems to be a paradise! greetz to your son... Tim

oh weird! Just watched the video, gave you my heart right away. And now reading the comments and almost thought I posted the one from iamkalaniprince. Why? Because I live on Maui, because I always wanted to go to NY and I went there for the very first time last October for my B-Day! Weird no? Anyway, fell in love with the concrete jungle and planing on going back for my 30th next Oct! I made a little video from my trip there too but nothing compare to yours...You made the video I wish I had done! But I'm a very beginner in the video world so one step at a time..I love the soundtrack and what you did with it.
  • tim hahne plus 1 week ago
That´s fun... Then go for "The Beat of Maui" in the meantime!

Just download for the big screen.
By the way how didi you edit?
    And your export settings?
  • tim hahne plus 1 year ago
I cutted on fcp. cc with magic bullet. export: everything 100 %, a bit more contrast, a little less brightness.
  • Raphael Siquieira 4 months ago
Hello Tim, I loved your CC, I'm a newbie on this, but that's exactly the way I want my videos to be. I have a Panasonic SD90 and I know it won't be shoot like yours.

very cool film. what lenses did you use? any ND filters used? what picture style setting did u use? thanks.
  • tim hahne plus 1 year ago
Lenses: just a 50mm 1.2 with vario ND and a 24-70mm 2.8 - both Canon. Picture style neutral. Rest: Post! Thanx for posting!
  • Pavel Shmelov 1 year ago
So would you recommend shooting in neutral if you're planning on editing in post? Does it make a big difference? I really like the video, slightly experimental, but gives off a good vibe.

  • amazing work everything works a treat. Everyone has gone 5D crazy (tears for RED) and this is the type of project it's perfect for. Was it used for your Mercedes job? and were all your images in this film graded? Looks great
  • tim hahne plus 1 year ago
actually, I didn´t do the mercedes job. but it was done with old fashioned digital betacam (sd!). yes, I like to use grading just like spices in a soup. you should sense them, but not too much!
