This is a piece I made from a number of 8mm films my grandfather shot of his family. In watching these films I got to see for the first time my father’s twin who died when he was two. As the films progress over the years, the difference between my healthy father and his partially paralyzed brother is more evident. I question why one brother is taken and one is left. In this tableau of an Armenian generation that survived the genocide by moving to the United states, I explore the issue of survival guilt, and involuntary sacrifice.
