    Wow. Equipment list, please?
  •
  • Great quality on this video...I concur with Satchell above, what are you using for equipment? I would also be interested in what you used for compression.
  • Edd Blott plus 1 year ago
Thank you! The shooters used Canon 7D's and 5D's. The color grading was done with Magic Bullet Looks where I mostly worked in the mid-tones. The compression was the Apple TV preset in Compressor with the bit rate set to the highest point.
  • Thanks Edd, that will prove helpful to me in the future. Magic Bullet Looks seems like it is pretty sweet! I'm checking that out!

Is that on camera audio or were you using external mics?
  • Andrew Laparra 1 year ago
No camera audio was used. Only for syncing. We used a Sennheiser shotgun hanging down in the middle of the table.
  •
  • Me too with both the above comments - the video is amazing in quality! Did you film in color & go B&W in post production?
  •
  • Good stuff Edd!

Did you catch the missed knuckle bump around the 6 min mark? Ha
  •
  • Stewart White 1 year ago
I totally caught the missed knuckle bump and thought it was funny, then I laughed when I saw that someone else had the same thought!

I really appreciate Francis Chan and his apparent heart toward the issues he's been addressing in his own life. It's pretty rare to see people in his position actually move on the convictions that they believe might be coming from the Spirit of God. However, I thought Mark made a really great point around the 8:42 mark when he asks his final question, and then later on when he points out the error of poverty theology being the other side of the prosperity theology coin.
Paul puts it well when he says to give thanks in all things. That's really an outworking of sanctification, both in the good and the bad.

It will take more than a few months, Francis. Take it from a fellow simple church guy who's been in one in San Jose for five years.

Driscoll automatically assumed Francis was going the opposite way... and just being counter-whatever he saw was wrong. I love how Francis didn't even argue about his doctrine on sanctification. He just went straight for the simple commands of Jesus: LOVE for God, others, and the commission to MAKE DISCIPLES.

Man, what a freaking fantastic discussion. It definitely felt more like a conversation I would want if I sat down with any of these guys, then just another fun "this could apply to anybody" discussion.

So thankful for all three dudes here just being honest and clear with what was being talked about.

    Ed, looks good!
5d's + 7d's are the way to go!
  • Edd Blott plus 1 year ago
Thanks, man! I, unfortunately, wasn't there for the shooting, but was the editor and did all the grading.

    And I LOVE my 7D!
  •
  • Not sure if you did the work on the Francis Chan, Driscol and Harris video but I would really like to get a few details on the equipment used for the shoot. I see in the comments that 7D's and 5D's were used but I have a few other questions as I am trying to use the same type of equipment.

Are you shooting to a CF in the camera or some other external solution?

If an external solution what is it and how?

Are you syncing the footage in edit or are you doing some kind of gen sync - maybe your recording option is giving you that ability.

Thanks so much for your time.
  • Andrew Laparra 1 year ago
We did record straight to CF cards in the cameras. And all the audio syncing was done in post.

I love this. Only thing that gets me is at 13:50, you can see the black curtains, floor and the ceiling and I found that some what ruined the feel of an anonymous location.

Focusing on making disciples of the nations will take a different kind of "following" (different values, practices, and structures) than making disciples just in my local community with people pretty much already "like us". Being compelled into the unknown and uncomfortable while tracking with Jesus, doesn't sound that crazy to me. (even if you can't fully explain it).

    Great stuff!

May I ask what lenses you're using?
And did you use a preset in Bullet Looks?

We're about to do a similar type shoot, and planning on using 7D's and T2i's with all 50mm lenses.
  • Andrew Laparra 1 year ago
The lens that we used were two Canon L 85mm, 1.2 lenses and I believe the other one was a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L

And I personally own a 50mm as well on a 7D and it will get the job done, but one consideration would be to jus rent a nice Canon L lens or a Zeiss that fits your project.

Compelling work - I love the simplicity and the clean look. I'm really curious about the studio space and lighting. Could you fill us in on how you lit the subjects? Thanks for your pursuit of quality!
  • Andrew Laparra 1 year ago
They were lit from above with 2 kind flo lights parallel to each other and then we took a class room and closed in a studio space with room dividers.
  • Jim Taylor pro 1 year ago
Cool. What model Kinos did you use and how far away from the subjects?
  • Andrew Laparra 1 year ago
    Hmm..I believe the model # is KIT-2GF-X120
